About Puerto del Carmen
There are plenty of things to do in Puerto del Carmen for everyone to enjoy. Originally a small fishing village, it has grown into the fantastic tourist hot spot that it is today. Puerto del Carmen was the first established tourist destination on the islands. Puerto del Carmen is situated just 10-15 minutes drive from Arrecife Airport and close by to all of the attractions.
Things to do in Puerto del Carmen
The ocean that surrounds the Canary Islands is full of the most beautiful marine mammals. Whilst on holiday, taking a boat trip should be high on your list of things to do in Puerto del Carmen. Many boat trips depart from Puerto del Carmen daily to take you whale watching. Pilot whales and dolphins are spotted regularly off the coast of Lanzarote.
Water sports are a must when it comes to things to do in Puerto del Carmen. The majority of the islands water sports are situated at Puerto del Carmens Playa Chica and Playa Blanca (Marina Rubicon). Parascending, jet ski safaris and banana boat are among the most popular.
Lanzarote has some truly amazing dive sites. Shore dives are popular for first time divers as you are not jumping in to deep water. Boat dives are also available for try dives as well as more advance dives sites for certified divers. Explore the underwater world with wreck dives and get up close to angle sharks, sting rays and sea turtles. Diving is one of the best things to do in Puerto del Carmen with the majority of all shore dives in Lanzarote taking place in the bay of Playa Chica.
Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park is the only zoo in Lanzarote with pools and water slides. A visit here is definitely one of the best things to do in Puerto del Carmen. Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park is an animal park with birds, dolphins & sea lion shows, cowboy lasso displays, gold mine, pony rides & splash zones. This park is great fun for children and adults.

One of the most popular things to do in Puerto del Carmen is the Submarine Safari excursion. Departing from the next harbour, Puerto Calero, they offer complimentary transfers from selected hotels in Puerto del Carmen. Diving past a ship wreck to a depth of around 30 meters you will see a variety of marine life and feeding show with the giant sting rays. The excursion is classed as a half day trip however the dive time is 50 minutes.
The coastline around Puerto del Carmen is home to 7 beaches and coves easy accessible on foot or by bus. You will find whatever you are looking for whether it be small and quiet to semi secluded beaches such as La Pepita. For windier, wavier beaches that are good for sports like surfing and wind surfing, Los Pocillos is the beach for you. If you prefer more commercialised, larger beaches packed with fun and water sports then Playa Blanca (Playa Gande) would be for you.
Puerto del Carmen is home to the famous comedy drag show MHT (Music Hall Tavern). This magical, hilarious comedy drag show will have you entertained, amused and dazzled from start to finish. It is a truly magnificent night of fabulous costumes, side-splitting laughter and a cast of unique characters. There will be singing, dancing and joking all night long. Guaranteed to be one of the funniest nights of your holiday, it is one of the best things to do in Puerto del Carmen.

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Puerto del Carmen and surrounding areas, whether you are looking for a romantic night out or something cheap and cheerful for the whole family to enjoy.
Our favourite and most up market restaurant in the area is La Cabana Restaurante.. A small 30 cover restaurant in Mácher, about 10 minutes from Puerto del Carmen and definitely worth a visit. La Cabana has been very popular since the doors opened in 2002. The menu changes weekly. Homemade desserts are always popular! Booking a seat at La Cabana Restaurante is essential to avoid disappointment.

Puerto del Carmen offers amazing nightlife from karaoke bars for the families to enjoy to posh cocktail bars, ideal for parties and special nights out. Bars and cafe´s are open late around town and you will always find what you are looking for.
Our personal favourite is The Good Old Days Bar & Kitchen, as they have something for everyone! It was opened in 2017 by Nolita James & Charlie Chapman, who are known for giving their customers a very warm welcome. The Good Old Days Bar & Kitchen is the only 70´s themed bar in Lanzarote. Designed to make you feel as though you have stepped back in time in the comfort and warmth of your own home back in ‘The Good Old Days’
They offer a food menu that contains all the classics you would expect to see plus some exciting dishes new to Lanzarote. If you like home cooked food this is the place for you!
